FACTS: Upon arriving at a firm, a junior auditor was asked by the firm's human resource manager if they were a member of Beta Alpha Psi. Although the junior auditor had attended many meetings of Beta Alpha Psi, he has actually not formally pledged. A few months later, the junior auditor was assigned to an audit that was being conducted by a senior auditor who was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. She asks the junior auditor about his Beta Alpha Psi experience and he remarked that it was great. A few months later, while having drinks, the junior auditor shares that he did not actually join Beta Alpha Psi to a fellow junior auditor who was a Beta Alpha Psi member. What should the other junior auditor do? ISSUES: In completing this case summary, I identify and discuss the following issues: Did he actually say he was a not member of BAP? If he didn't, I'm not sure he did anything wrong. o If he did, he made an affirmative negative statement. It was an unethical thing to do. Lie of omission: o code of conduct violation if misrepresentation rather than an outright lie. Report knowledge: o as other junior auditor do I have an ethical responsibility to report this to management. Methods of reporting: RECOMMENDATIONS: this part will say what the junior auditor should do. How can he meet the needs of his stakeholders, firm, self, public acct profession, and colleagues FACTS: Upon arriving at a firm, a junior auditor was asked by the firm's human resource manager if they were a member of Beta Alpha Psi.
