Being the person in charge of hiring new employees is a difficult task in any industry. It is a responsibility; you never know what you will get based on initial interviews. As important as having an adequate skill set for the job, having a positive attitude that fits the establishment's culture is even more critical. It is easier to assist and encourage the learning of a skill in a person than to change their attitude and the way they are. In the book Creating Magic, Lee Cockerell talks about his experiences with hiring new members for his team. He states, "I'm trying to match the candidate's personality with the organizational culture; I turned away many qualified people because they do not have the relationship skills or political sensitivity for a particular environment" (Cockerell, 2008, p. 95). If an individual possesses the skills but has a horrible attitude or thinks they know everything or their way is the right way despite the companies' beliefs, it can create more problems. They will eventually need to be replaced anyway. Someone with a positive attitude, the will to learn and accept guidance, and who fits in with the company's culture can learn and flourish
