Bernadette is on trial for stealing goods from the local Co-op on the night of the 25th of March 2024. On the night of the incident, Maureen, the Co-op manager, claims she saw a short brunette wearing a limited-edition Taylor Swift's 'It's a Cruel Summer with You Crewneck' running away from the shop with several cans of energy drinks and snacks. No CCTV recordings of the incident are available. Two days after the incident, Maureen found a photo of Bernadette wearing the same limitededition Crewneck on a Facebook Taylor Swift fan page. She identified Bernadette as the short brunette she saw running out of the Co-op on the 25th of March. Bernadette pleaded not guilty and contested the identification as mistaken. Bernadette was cautioned for writing graffiti on a bus shelter in 2015 (when she was 16 years old) and one conviction for being drunk and disorderly in public in 2019. Bernadette decides to testify in court. Before she begins her testimony, the trial judge notices that Bernadette is wearing a lapel badge indicating that she regularly gives blood and, in the presence of the jury, she is asked to remove it. In her evidence-in-chief, Bernadette falsely claims that she volunteers for the local food bank and is a person of impeccable reputation.
