Bill was a wealthy seventy-seven-year-old businessman when he married Rabha, who was much younger. Rabha was born and grew up in Morocco. Rabha met Bill when she travelled to the United States to visit her brother. Within two months, Bill and Rabha were engaged. Bill had his attorney draft a premarital agreement. The agreement provided that in the event of divorce, each party waived their interest in the other party's property and their rights to equitable distribution of property, spousal support, retirement, life insurance, and attorney's fees. The agreement provided that each party gave up the right to inherit from the other. The only asset Rabha was entitled to under the agreement was $100,000 if she and Bill were still married and living together when Bill died. The agreement did not disclose Bill's assets. Rabha's native language is Arabic, and when she signed the premarital agreement, she spoke little English. She relied on translators for oral and written communication in English.
