Biogas has the potential to be a significant renewable energy source that can be used globally. Biogas is
primarily composed of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), with trace amounts of hydrogen sulphide
(H2(S)), ammonia (NH3), nitrogen (N2), and hydrogen (H2). The significant quantity of non-combustible carbon
dioxide (CO2) gas in biogas not only decreases its heat-producing capacity, but also lowers the speed at
which flames propagate and narrows the range of concentrations at which it can ignite. Furthermore, when
biogas is utilised as a fuel for transportation vehicles, the storage cylinder tanks experience an increase in
the volume occupied by CO2 gas. This leads to higher energy consumption for compressing the biogas
and consequently results in an indirect rise in operational expenses. Hence, the removal of CO2 from
Biogas is vital. Gas absorber or scrubber is installed next to Biogas tank. The biogas is entering the
Scrubbers at rate of 1500kgh and in contact with a solvent to capture 95% of CO2. The Biogas composition
data for the inlet absorption process to carry out the design calculations are given in Table 1.
