Board of directors of ABC PLC is interested in investing money into another company listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Sri Lanka. As a financial analyst of the ABC PLC you are asked to conduct a financial statement analysis of a company listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and prepare a written report with recommendations to the board of directors (please avoid choosing Ceylon Tobacco Company CTC as this will be chosen for illustrations) . You have been asked to conduct some quantitative analysis of that selected company, in which your company is thinking of investing. Accordingly, you are required to get the published financial statements of a listed company for the most recent 5 years from the CSE to assist you in making strategic and investment decision. In addition, in order to assist you in your analysis, you are also required to prepare projected financial statements for the next two years. Based on the various analytical techniques that you use, the directors wants you to submit a report including the following information. 1. First identify and select a company that is listed in the CSE. Then, get access to the past and last annual reports and financial statements (at least for the last 5 years). Remember to use whatever information that are relevant to your decision making. 2. You should decide the structure and the information that is relevant to your report to make the investment decision. 3. You should not limit your sources of information to the annual reports. Your report should deal with financial as well as non-financial issues. However, your report must include an analysis of the financial position and performance of the chosen company. 4. You should not use analysts reports that can be found online. Their ratios will inevitably differ from yours and are not to be relied upon. 5. You are required to provide a list of specific references and page numbers when you use data sources or extracts from the annual / interim reports. The APA of referencing is useful for this purpose. Please note that specific references to data and quotations are required and NOT a general bibliography. 6. When you submit your work for marking, you are required to include the annual reports of the company that you have used. 7. There is no limit to the length of the report. It is the quality of analysis that matters, not the number of words in the report. There is no need for a word count. Please remember that a shorter and focused report with quality in its analysis will earn more marks than a rambling and repetitive description, with irrelevant appendices that are not clearly linked to the main text of your report. Guideline for the Report You report should consist of following important sections Executive Summary Company profile Concept of Financial Statement Analysis Traditional performance evaluation techniques including two year predictions Analysis of Profitability Analysis of Liquidity Analysis of Solvency Cash flow statement analysis Recommendations
