The concept of this goal is to join multiple programs under a single umbrella in effort to reduce the risk for singular divisions, remove excess costs, share knowledge and increase efficiency which should help address the delay issue (Schmidt, 2015). As BDS makes up approximately 40% of Boeing's model, consolidation can prove to make an immediate and noticeable impact (Hellman, 2013). The necessity of the strategic goal for Boeing is based on its position in the market and to reinforce its value to the industry when it comes to competitor presence and sustainability in volatile times.
