WHY WINTER EVENTS

It refects the essence of Queenstown, showcasing our place to the worldcreates opportunity for celebration within our regional community. It boosts (the) economy in an otherwise quite time of (the) year and develops Queentowns reputation as a premier winter destination. Attendance: 45% local 46% domestic 9% international - To continue both events as festivals that tell stories and make images that imprint themselves on the worlds retina and place Edinburgh and Scotland at the heart of the worlds consciousness of winter celebrations. Attendance: 20% local 53% domestic 27% international

OVERVIEW

For generations the Bon Soo Winter Carnival has been wowing Northern Ontario with frozen winter magic, ice carved sculptures and a massive variety of entertainment appealing to a variety of ages. Now in its 60th year a steering group has come together to analysis the festival in order to develop a successful model for the festivals future.

ACTIVATION TO DATE

Recruit a 2023 steering committee made up of representatives with practical board abilities:

PR, Financial, Marketing, Institutional Memory, multiple Tourism and Arts and Culture Representatives.

GOALS + OBJECTIVES

To create an annual sustainable winter festival that isnt 100% reliant on weather conditions -

To identify programming that will attract the 19-29 crowd to the event (Examples: EDM Snow Bath etc) -

Create a process to determine what does and does not qualify as a Bon Soo event -

To identify 2-3 high impact low time investment fundraising strategies prior to the festival dates -

To develop marketing tactics that will attract 19-29 year old tourists to the festival
