BUAD 304 Week 2/Motivation: SkillsForTomorrow Case Analysis Guideline
Using the USC-CT case analysis framework, analyze the assigned case and complete the sections below. Case questions are provided to start your analysis but you should think more deeply than simply answer the questions. When reading the case, you may want to take the role of the consultant trying to figure out what is going wrong and how to fix it with a focus on what we are learning in this module on motivation. Your analysis should utilize the concepts from the textbook and ARES.
I. Uncover the issues and root causes & Select the most critical problem. Clearly identify the main problem and key issues/root causes. Use case facts as needed to support your work. Support your selection of the main problem with specific OB logic (key concepts; use the terms). Be clear and concise. This is usually 1 well-developed paragraph or several bullets. These questions can get you started.
- What are the root causes of the morale issue at SFT? What motivation factors should we focus on when evaluating low morale?
- What is the main problem Alvarez needs to tackle?
- Does the data in the exhibits help you understand the situation better? (i.e. Exhibits 4 & 5)
- Could there be other factors at play with regard to the low morale? (Note briefly as we are focused on motivation in this assignment.)
II. Create several potential solutions, then Choose 2-3 alternatives to resolve the issues/problem. Identify 2-3 realistic alternatives (there may be more but focus on the root causes) that address the issues caused by the main problem. Use relevant course concepts, theories and models (i.e. terms) to explain the benefits and consequences/challenges of each (pros and cons). We realize that you may have some creative ideas, but use the material from the course to support your arguments for your three alternatives. This may take paragraphs. It may be in bullet form but must be fullyexplained and supported.
III. Translate your solution into an implementation plan. Choose one of the alternatives as the final recommendation and expand on it. Explain your choice with solid reasoning informed by what you know and have learned from the readings. For example, explain why this alternative is better than the others or why you should take this action first. Include implementation steps if they are relevant. This should be one well-developed, detailed paragraph.
