BUCOo6 - Business in Context Assignment Drop In We will focus the seminars on preparing for the assignment. Last year the student climate shifted a little at this stage as we changed the shift from discussion to staff expecting students to start developing their ideas and start putting into practice their learning. Going forward there will be less structured seminars and more working with students to develop their ideas. Try to facilitate group problem solving as a great deal of the issues they experience will be the same. Emphasise to the students they need to be bringing their unfinished/incomplete work to seminars to get feedback. In the lecture I will go into detail on how to do an environmental scan. In the seminars focus on the question. I have populated blackboard with a wealth of information. In seminars I would have a quick tour of this information. Perhaps play the 'recording - The World at Work'. Then start thinking about the assignment. What is their chosen industry/vocation? Why? Perhaps conduct a broad generic environmental scan of the factors that are likely to influence the global context in the next ten years. Now encourage them to contextualise that for themselves. The report should be structured as follows: Introduction: Signpost the reader: What is the purpose, what is the focus, How will you address the question? (200 Words) Environmental Scanning: What is it. Why should individuals and organisations scan the environment? Briefly what are the strengths and limitations of this analytical technique? (400 Words) Analysis: PEST - This should be quite broad and generic (Table or bullet points, 300 Words) Analysis of Findings: What are the key factors that organisations/individuals in your specific chosen field need to be considering? (500 Words) Reflection: Based on your analysis, what do you need to consider to help you reach your potential in the future?
