Building an agenda explained building an agenda can be a long and complicated process.  What I have learned through the text this week is that there is a significant amount of prework that needs to be completed before you begin to advocate for any policy or agenda.  According to Jansson (2017), the three challenges of agenda-building are diagnosis, soften, and activating change (p.180).  The diagnosis is arguably the most complicated.  This is where you will have to do your behind-the-scenes work to see if the issue is even a viable issue to advocate for at the time.  According to Mucciaroni (1992), when it comes to policy and politics there is always a level of "chance, human creativity and choice" plays a critical role in the success of policy advocacy.  He goes on to say that issues get on the agenda when a problem is identified, a solution is available, and the political climate is right for this type of change (Mucciaroni, 1992). 

Building agendas work is tireless and might not produce any results, but we must remember that sometimes we are just laying the groundwork for future successes.  We may not even see this success in our careers, but bringing to light the injustices of the world is not something we can sleep on.
