BUS332: How to Manage and Reflect on Collaboration

Imagine your group of 5 will partner with a team in Taiwan who are taking a class in Responsible Marketing in the Department of Business Administration at the University National Cheng-Chi University. Your Taiwanese partners will be working with a business in Taiwan and, over the duration of this collaboration, will be completing an analysis of their business, with the final outcome being a socially responsible marketing plan. You need to respond to your Taiwanese partners' questions and also address their prompts.

For this assignment, you will create a reflective journal. Journaling is a useful learning tool; it can help your academic work but can also help your professional growth. Learning this skill will help you how to actively learn from and react properly on future business collaborations.

1. Description of your experience both within your team and your partner team.

  • What happened?
  • When and where did it happen?
  • Who was present?
  • What did you and the other people do?
  • What was the outcome of the situation?
  • Why were you there?
  • What did you want to happen?

2. Feelings and thoughts about your experience, noting pre- and post-feelings where appropriate.

  • What were you feeling during the situation?
  • What were you feeling before and after the situation?
  • What do you think other people were feeling about the situation?
  • What do you think other people feel about the situation now?
  • What were you thinking during the situation?
  • What do you think about the situation now?

3. Evaluation of the experience, here you will need to highlight the good and bad if both apply.

  • What was good and bad about the experience?
  • What went well?
  • What didn't go so well?
  • What did you and other people contribute to the situation (positively or negatively)?

4. Description of key points, such as important decisions and what is your analysis at that time.

  • Why did things go well?
  • Why didn't it go well?
  • What sense can I make of the situation?
  • What knowledge - my own or others (for example academic literature) can help me understand the situation?

5. A conclusion for each submission about what you have learned and what you could have done differently.

  • What did I learn from this situation?
  • How could this have been a more positive situation for everyone involved?
  • What skills do I need to develop for me to handle a situation like this better?
  • What else could I have done?

6. Suggestions on how you would deal with similar situations in the future.

  • If I had to do the same thing again, what would I do differently?
  • How will I develop the required skills I need?
  • How can I make sure that I can act differently next time?
