The company treats this as other revenue. The cost of the honey combs is $420.000 for 150,000 oz. of which 5,000 oz. are attributed to the byproduct and virtually no waste. The beeswax uses 85,000 oz. and can be processed further into fine, tapered candles for an additional cost of $45,000. The sales price at split-off is $3.00 per oz., but if processed further the selling price jumps to $4.50 per oz. Of the 85,000 oz. used for beeswax at split-off (no waste after accounting for the byproduct) and if processed further into candles, a total of 80,000 oz. is utilized given that the processing causes substantial waste with no resale value. A similar situation exists for the honey. Of the 60,000 oz. produced at split-off, there is no waste except the byproduct, so all 60,000 oz. are utilized. If processed further into honey candy the added cost is $50,000 and carries an $8 per oz. selling price. The selling price at split-off is $6.75 per oz., and if processed further, 55,000 oz. are produced with 5,000 oz. lost due to what the company believes is shrinkage and waste.
