But if the goal is simply to make the data easier for humans to read, why use base$-16$ instead of base$-10,$ which is our "natural" numbering system. And if the goal is to put more data in fewer characters, why base$-16$ instead of base$-27$ or base$-59$ or base$-103?$

So why does computer science use hexadecimal numbers when presenting binary data to humans?
