POST

I am writing about Jeffrey Dahmer. He was born on May 21,1960. He was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer. Up until he turned 4 he was described as energetic and happy but after he had a double hernia surgery they said they noticed a change in him. By the time he was school age he was mostly disengaged, withdrawn, and friendless. (McEvoy 2023) He states that he had a huge fascination with animal's bones and would collect all kinds of animals and insects in jars to examine them. Said by the age of 14 was when he thought and had fantasies for necrophilia and murder. He started drinking heavily around that age too and finally his family sent him to live with his grandma once he was out the Army. The family moved around a lot and by the time he was in high school they lived in Ohio. He attended one quarter at Ohio State University before dropping out and enlisting in the Army when his father insisted, he do that. Was discharged from the Army in 1981 after his post in Germany. Authorities later revealed that the German police were looking into murders that happened there during the time Dahmer was there but none of them were ever connected to him. He was actively killing people between the years of 1978-1991. His choice of victims were mostly black males or boys. He would often meet them from either gay bar, malls, or off the streets. He admitted to 17 murders and received 16 life sentences. He was later killed while in prison by a fellow prisoner Christopher Scarver on November 28, 1994.

Damhers go to killing method seemed to mostly be strangling the victims once he had them drugged. He also like to keep some souvenirs from them along with photographs that he would take through the whole process to recount what he did. He was also said to relish in some cannibalisms also. I feel like he chose the victims that he did because he was never happy and nobody was accept that he was gay. I feel like he himself wouldn't accept that he was gay also and so for him to have the fantasies and his body to react that way towards men I feel bothered him. I myself have no idea how it took him so long to be convicted because he was caught up with the police numerous times or had victims escape to just be brought back. I also don't see how when he became obsessed with animals and killing them and learning how to preserve their bones that the parents didn't question why this was normal. In fact, it was said that his dad helped him with learning about it also. I think that also when he lived at his grandmothers and would bring home all those young men and spend most of the time in the basement with a disgusting smell coming from it how did they not question what he was doing or go investigate it.

I think that being really withdrawn, not having many friends, need for control, and lack of empathy could be the most important warning signs. I think we should also look into a persons past life from childhood and what they went through and how that could affect them. We need to come up with plans and tips to stop and recognize things before something happens.
