Discussion: b) No, I don't agree with the argument of Friedman. As we can see in Covid-19 Era, a lot of corporations have been solely focusing on achieving profits which in turn has led sacking of many employees in ceremoniously thus leading to a grim situation of unemployment and decreasing income level across the world. On the other hand, companies who would keep their employees even in spite of lesser profits at such times are more likely to grow progressively in the long run. For example, of company never compromising on its value and helping societies at large along with making profits One of them is ford motors company, it holds its pride in being one of the most socially responsible companies in its industry. Furthermore, ford plans to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions using their eco boost engine to increase fuel efficiency. (16 Brands Doing Corporate Social Responsibility Successfully DMI, 2021) Moreover, it also plans to introduce electrified vehicles for the betterment of environment. Therefore, the company should never make profit earning a sole motive and it should also help communities to grow together. c) Yes, I agree with the argument of Rangan. When a company reaches certain level of profit where it can help the society in various causes such as education, environment, health etc. The management of that particular company should make sure that it actively contributes to the society. Such contributions also add to the brand equity of a company and people tend to associate more with the company. For example, ITC's E-Choupal initiative in the rural markets helps farmers to get more profits margins and various information related to agricultural practices helps them in increasing their productivity which turn helps the company to get inputs at lower costs as compared to its competitors thus increasing profit margins (ITC e-Choupal Rural India's largest Internet- based intervention, 2021). Another example is Starbucks Thus, business should primarily focus on the profit motive but as time progresses, it should also align itself with societal issues. d)
