Table 2.5: Variable reenrintin... Ninety-two students in an introductory statistics course participated in a simple experiment. Each student recorded his or her height, weight, gender, smoking preference, usual activity level, and resting pulse. They all flipped coins, and those whose coins came up heads ran on the spot for one minute. The entire class then recorded their pulses once more. The data is stored in the file "Pulse.txt". It comes from the statistical package Minitab. Log-on to myplace and go to the page for MM206. Under the topic Datasets you will see the file Pulse. Open (you will automatically be asked if you want to open in Excel) and save the file to your MM206 directory. With the file open, look at the variables. They are described in Table (2.5). Read the data into R and perform the following tasks. 1. Find the mean pulse rates before and after running on the spot, the mean height and the mean weight for all students. 2. Create a new dataframe for the data corresponding to students who ran on the spot. 3. Find the mean pulse rates before and after running on the spot for this sub-set of students (i.e. those that ran on the spot). Is the change in mean pulse rate before and after exercising different for this group of students when compared to all students. Do the results suggest that running on the spot has an effect on pulse rate? 4. For those students that ran on the spot, compare the pulse rates before and after running on the spot according to whether or not the student smokes. Comment on the results
