There have been numerous car accidents during the storm and, because of the treacherous driving conditions most drivers have reduced their speeds to about 25 miles per hour. Byron is late for a holiday party, so despite the bad conditions, he is driving 60 miles per hour. Byron's car skids out of control and he hits a car driven by Franny. Unknown to Byron, Franny's car contains fireworks. Franny is seriously injured in the car crash. The exploding fireworks also injure Trudy who is walking to her car at a parking lot half a mile from the location of the car crash. Franny and Trudy sue Byron for negligence.
