Calculating the World's Population Curve

Open the file Human Population Growth $$

Go to Worldometers $$ for the precise population number in millions as of today and enter it for the corresponding year $($you would input that value in cell C$17)$

Convert millions to billions and enter the numbers in the corresponding column. To convert, you can do a simple formula of dividing the population of millions by $1,000($billions $=$ millions$/1000)$ and then click "suggested autofill" for the remaining cells of different years. So the cell D$7$ should look like this: $=C\frac{7}{1000}$

Calculate the time needed to increase the population by one billion $($which is the $3$rd green column$)$:

From years $-8000$ BCE to $2011$: Subtract a given year minus the previous year $($i$.$e$.1800-1650=150$ years$)$

For the current year $2023$: You would need the future year in which another billion would be added, but we can estimate that assuming the trend would stay as it is today. This assumption works somewhat like this... if it took $6$ years to increase $0\mathrm{.}5$ billion, it would take approximately double that time to increase by $1$ billion. So type the following formula in the last cell $($E$17)$ for the time it would take to increase in $1$ billion people: A$17-$A$16)/($D$17-$D$16)$

Make a Line$-$Plot

To construct a line plot showing the human population growth follow the steps below. Please note that time $($aka year$)$ will be depicted as your $x$ axis and population as your $Y$ axis:

Select all cells with the population in billions $($from $0\mathrm{.}005$ to present$)$

Click on the menu "Insert" and then "Chart". Google sheets will automatically insert a bar graph by default in this case.
