California has implemented a measure of school performance called the Academic Performance Index (API). The API ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000. The target for each school is 800 or higher. Public schools receive an API score each year. Of interest are those factors that may help predict API scores for schools. A sample of 315 elementary schools was included in a year 2000 study. Five variables are considered:

(a) API 2000 = Year 2000 API Score for each Elementary School (b) Pct Free Meals = percentage of students who receive free meals at the school (c) Number of students = school enrollment size (d) English Language Learners = percentage of enrolled students learning English (e) Parent College Grad = percentage of students whose parents are college graduates

The four predictors are Percent Free Meals, Number of students, Percent English Language Learners, and Percent Parent College Grad. SPSS results below. Note that percentage (e.g., 45%), not proportion (e.g., .45), are the figures used for the three variables.
