Jane and John were moving house. To help with the move, John hired a van. John took out the contract in his name. However, the payment was made from Janes bank account.
When the van arrived, John realised one of the mirrors in the wing mirror had fallen out. John notified the hire company. However, continued to use the vehicle. John then paid to extend the vehicles usage by a week and paid with his mothers bank account.
Jane and John eventually broke up and John moved away. Approximately 1.5 years later, Jane received a final notice letter in the post from the Hire Company to advise that she was being held liable for the cost if damage
