All equipment a guest may need is available for rent in the park. There is a skate rental counter at the rink, where guests can rent figure skates for men, women, or children, along with adult and childrens hockey skates. There are no skate rentals in the arena. A guest can rent one pair of skates at a time. We record the guests tag number, the date and time at time of rental, and the date and time when the skates are returned.

All skates must be returned to the counter before leaving the rink. We need to know our inventory of available skates in the rink at all times. Skates may be relocated from the rink to the outdoor equipment hut at different times, and we must know the location of all skates.

The equipment hut provides a location for renting equipment for outdoor activities, as well as a warming and rest area for park guests. Hockey skates and figure skates are available for rent, along with cross-country skis and snowshoes. Poles are included with rentals of skis and snowshoes, but may also be rented separately. Each piece (or pair) of rental equipment has a unique inventory ID number, manufacturer, model name, category (skates, skis, snowshoes, or poles), purchase date, purchase cost, replacement charge, and daily rental fee. Skates have a location (rink or hut), skate type (figure, hockey), fit (mens or womens or childrens), size, manufacturer, model, replacement cost, daily rental fee, and date of last sharpening. Skis are also described by colour and serial number. Snowshoes come in children or adult sizes, but are adjustable to fit different-sized feet. Skis and snowshoes come with poles. Poles come in pairs and are length adjustable.

Each pair of poles has an inventory number and can be matched with any pair of skis or snowshoes. They also can be rented without the skis or snowshoes. Daily rental rates are fixed at each park for skates, skis, snowshoes, and poles, regardless of manufacturer or model or size. Rates may differ across parks. We do not need to keep history of rate changes, but we do need to know the current rental rate. We also want to track the supplier from whom we purchased all our equipment. Each type and model of equipment may be purchased from multiple suppliers. We record supplier company name, our sales representatives full name, supplier phone, website address, and full physical address for each equipment supplier. A partial supplier list is provided in Appendix B. Orders to suppliers are aggregated across the different parks for volume efficiency. Suppliers may provide multiple items in our inventory, but each piece of rental equipment is provided by only one supplier. (You may ignore data associated with the order process, shipments from suppliers, or distribution of items to different parks.) When a guest wants to rent equipment, the ET assists the customer to complete an equipment rental form (Appendix A). The rental form will include a unique rental ID, first and last name, customer identifier, date and time, the inventory number and type of equipment being rented (skates, skis, poles, boots), and the rental fee for the item. Each rental may include multiple items.

All rentals are charged on a per-day basis. When the equipment is returned, the returned date and time is noted. Guests may only have one piece of equipment out at a time (skis or snowshoes and poles are considered one item for this rule) and must returned all equipment at end of rental day. Equipment rental is a very profitable part of our business, so making sure that we have the appropriate equipment available for rentals is critically important. Our database must allow us to keep track of inventory, know what is currently rented, when each piece of equipment is due to be returned, and track rental history over time. A partial inventory report is presented in Appendix B. Each piece of equipment in the rental inventory is inspected frequently, and information about its condition is recorded and used to identify required repairs. Each inspection relates to a specific piece of equipment and takes place on a specific date.

There is never more than one inspection of a piece of equipment on a single date. A condition description (Excellent, Good, Workable, and Needs Repair) is recorded. Any item that Needs Repair is put in the workshop and usually repaired within a few days. A repair ticket is prepared for the item (the repair ticket number is recorded on the inspection report) that identifies the equipment, the date, the ET ID number who referred the equipment to the workshop, and a description of the needed work. The ticket is updated when the same or another ET completes the repair work (the ET who does the work needs to be recorded) with the completion date and a description of the work done. The inspection condition description is also updated after the repair work. Only one ET will complete all work on a repair ticket. If equipment is determined to be unrepairable (or lost or stolen), it is described as destroyed or lost and physically removed from inventory.

Condition history for each piece of equipment should be maintained in the system. We should also have quick access to when a piece of equipment was last inspected and by whom. We provide skate sharpening to guests, in addition to regularly sharpening our own rental skates. When we are sharpening skates for guests, we record the guests tag number, description of the type of skate(s) and size, date and time the skates are dropped off at the rink counter or equipment hut, and the time they will be ready for pick-up. More than one pair of skates may be included in the same transaction.

If done the same day, the customer can pick them up from the equipment hut (where the sharpening is done). If it takes longer, the customer can pick them up from the guest reception area at the entrance to the park (sharpened skates can be picked up without a park pass). Sharpening of rental skates is documented with a repair ticket. History of all sharpening and repairs is recorded for all rental equipment
