Can someone revise, edit and add on to this argumentative essay?

Is it morally permissible (or even obligatory) for Canadian private businesses to give special consideration to Indigenous applicants during the hiring process? If no, why not? If yes, what should such a program look like?

In this essay I will be arguing that it is morally permissible (or even obligatory) for Canadian private businesses to give special consideration to indigenous applicants during the hiring process for reasons that are that no one should be discriminated in employment and services, the indigenous receive a lot of discrimation that regular people do not receive so it is only fair to help them as they already have an act that was passed to help the minority groups.Companies should have a more diverse group of staff so they should give extra care to hiring groups that have a low rate of getting employed. This will also be very beneficial for the company. Finally indegenous people help to fight climate change, avoid natural disasters, protect our environment etc. The minimum they should receive is giving them special consideration during the hiring process.

According to the Employment Equity Act, it is illegal to discriminate in employment and services and not give equal chances for everyone, which basically means that all employees and service providers in the 4 designated groups should all be equally treated. Those four groups include women. indigenous people, people with disabilities and members of visible minorities. If we were to implement a new law that supports giving only indigenous applicants special consideration it would be going hand and hand with these acts such as the Canadian Human Rights act, Employment Equity Act and etc. These four groups are given the least amount of opportunities and they all should be given an equal amount of special consideration. The employment equity act was passed in 1986, after all these years it is prominent that the indigenous communities still face discrimination not only at workplaces but medical care etc. Due to this ongoing issue, the indegenous communities are also provided less access to health care etc. The lack of health care workers (doctors, dentists) living in indegenous areas are increasing which is also correlated with the rate of indegenous deaths and diseases. Also while there have in advances in technology around the world, indegenous communities are still not given equal basic services. This is why I believe that Indigenous applicants should be given special consideration since they still go through a lot of discrimination in their daily lives.

Looking at an angle from the company's perspective, increasing the amount of indegenous people to get hired is not only providing more opportunities for the indegenous but it is also making the company's staff to be more diverse. It is stated that companies are more likely to be more efficient and less time consuming when they have more diverse staff (Estlund 2020, p. 3-4). Studies have also shown that the amount of indegenous being discriminated has not went down. This means companies have room to add more indegenous people to add more diversity in the staff. When companies start to hire more diverse staff, the staff will gain respect for the company since they believe that the company respects them for who they are. This results in gaining a lot of loyal staff. This also lowers the rates of any discrimination or health and safety claims. Business ethics is a very prominent factor of running a business. It has been shown in studies that customers go to businesses who have a good image. This means improving on business ethics can also be correlated with increased revenue. By giving the indegenous special consideration during the hiring process, it will result in improving the company's image which will lead to an increase in profitability and also allow to diversify the staff and allow members from all minority communities to get hired. This is morally permissible since it is helping the minority people (for example the indigenous) and also benefiting the company.

A final reason as to why I agree that private businesses should give indegenous people special consideration during the hiring process is that indegenous people safeguard 80% of this world's biodiversity. It is only fair to help the indegenous by securing their basic rights and helping them in the hiring process. This will give the indegenous communities a chance to live much healthier and safer. They should be recognized for their hard work protecting the environment. This will also bring a huge respect to the indegenous community. This will also encourage others to help out to protect our environment. This would be a great strategy to not only employ the minorities but help bring everyone together as one big community. This creates a win win situation and this is why I believe helping the indegenous during the hiring process is morally permissible.

In conclusion, there might be many reasons as to why it is not fair to give Indegenous people special consideration in the hiring process, but I strongly believe that giving indegenous communities a boost when companies are hiring is morally correct. When giving indegenous people special consideration during the hiring process it helps eliminate the problem of indegenous people not being treated equally. If they are given more job opportunities they will not have to face being unequally treated everywhere they go. Another reason is that helping the indegenous will not only help that community but also the company that hires them. Finally, indegenous communities are helping to protect the environment from natural disasters and from natural problems in the world such as global warming etc. We shouldn encourage them by rewarding them extra special care during the hiring process. This is why I believe it is morally permissible for Canadian private businesses to give special consideration to Indigenous applicants during the hiring process.
