Can you help me find the lesson learned while determining the appropriate social and emotional power skills from my paper below. I al trying to make sure the lesson learned is clear prior to submission.

Effective leadership begins with personal mastery. This assignment reflects on what lessons I learned when the nurse leaders used the appropriate social and emotional power skills to resolve conflicts within the department during specific scenarios. The nurse manager handled the scenarios effectively, utilizing the power skills and demonstrating personal mastery. These skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, interpersonal communication, and executive function. The nurse manager was able to show her mastery skills during the scenarios that she reflected on. When the nurse manager can use and understand these skills to the best of her ability, she can understand and manage issues with her staff, leading to positive relationships and outcomes for the unit (Prezerakos, 2018).

Social-emotional power skills allow the nurse manager to connect with team members. Self-awareness in any situation as a nurse manager is one of the most essential skills I must master to become a great leader. Self-awareness will allow the nurse manager to build therapeutic relationships. Self-awareness allows the nurse manager to be well-informed of the triggers and emotions of herself and her staff. One of the other most essential power skills is active listening. Active listening shows those involved in the conversation that you are engaged and allowing them to be heard. The nurse manager takes the time to listen to the staff uninterrupted. This skill will enable you to see the viewpoint of others so that you can understand where they are coming from. Social and emotional power skills are tied to emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence encompasses how you think and feel and how you can problem-solve. It also leads to better decision-making capabilities (Drigas & Papoutsi, 2018). This will improve the health and growth of the unit for the manager.

In one of the scenarios mentioned, the assistant nurse manager had planned a party for a member of the team who had taken a new job. The Assistant Nurse Manager had known this staff member for years, and they were close family friends. The unit had another individual who left for a new position two weeks prior. The assistant nurse manager had planned no party for this staff member. This was not done to show favoritism, as this nurse had worked for many years in the unit. This was different from the perception that was given to the rest of the staff. The nurse manager brought this to the attention of the assistant nurse manager and explained that in a leadership position, you cannot give the staff members the perception that you are favoring one person over the other. This can lead to dissatisfaction in the job and make other staff members feel less valued. The assistant nurse manager was open to hearing this from the nurse manager and appreciated her insight. She had not thought about how others would perceive this in the unit and would have never wanted other staff members to feel less valued. This taught the assistant nurse manager the importance of self-awareness and active listening. Without these skills, she would not have gained insight into her wrongdoings.

Personal mastery has allowed this writer to build confidence in her leadership abilities. Once she understood the importance of self-awareness and active listening, she could use these skills in all daily interactions with staff. She has accomplished her feelings of confidence by identifying her weaknesses and strengths. These personal mastery skills have taught her how to manage and maintain professional relationships, which allows her to ensure that the team is growing. We are only able to build confidence by being able to make changes in our behavior to improve outcomes. Personal mastery will allow this writer the confidence to lead her team without feeling overwhelmed. Ensuring that the assistant nurse manager leads with good personal mastery skills ensures that staff will not negatively perceive their leader. These feelings lead to adverse outcomes for the unit's health, which can lead to staff lacking confidence in their leader.

The path toward developing personal mastery is ongoing and one that can constantly be improved. Utilizing the skills that have been discussed and taught during this class and through other courses that this writer has taken both during her academic career and professional career has allowed her to be a more servant leader. The path this author has taken so far has improved her ability to listen to those around her actively. This will improve relationships with staff and co-workers. It will show staff that they are valued.

Social and emotional skills are essential to personal mastery. These skills can be tied to a person's success in life (OECD, 2018). They are connected to both personal and professional life. With these skills, the author will have more authentic and healthier relationships. These skills will lead to this author feeling more secure in her position. She will improve her leadership of others by understanding her thoughts and how she handles herself.
