Unlike the services in many other industries where the services or the end goods can be stored, the service in the transport industry is readily consumed. Let's look into what Supply and demand are individually first.
Transport Supply:The capacity of transportation, types of infrastructures, and modes of transportation, generally over a geographically defined transport system and for a specific period. Capacity is often assessed in static and dynamic terms, where static capacity represents the amount of space available for transport, and emotional capacity is the improvement that can be made through better technology and management. Therefore, Supply is expressed in terms of infrastructures (capacity), services (frequency), and networks. The number of passengers, volume (for material goods like oils, etc.), or mass (for freight, i.e., bulk loads) that can be transported per unit of time and space is commonly used to quantify transport supply.
Transport demand:Transport needs, even if those needs are satisfied fully, partially, or not at all. Like transport supply, it is expressed in the number of people, volume, or tons per unit of time and space.
Now we can see here that needs are independent, i.e., with or without the Supply of transportation machinery, the need for transportation will often be there. To what extent these needs are being met defines the efficiency, efficacy, or quality of Supply.
In a pretty exciting view, there is another thought: Transport supply and demand have a reciprocal but asymmetric relation. While a fully realized
Transport demand cannot occur without a corresponding transport supply level, and a transport supplycanexist without a corresponding transport demand.
Relationships between transport supply and demand are dynamic change, but they are always mutually interrelated. From a conventional economic perspective, transport supply and demand interact until an equilibrium is reached between the quantity of transportation the market is willing to use at a given price and the amount supplied for that price level. Price changes not only affect the level of transport demand but can also lead to demand shifts to other routes, alternative transport modes, or other periods. In the medium or long term, structural changes in transport pricing can affect the location decisions of individuals and businesses. However, several considerations are specific to the transport sector, which makes supply/demand relationships more complex. These different factors geographically, socially, and economically affect the dynamics of the supply-demand relation of transportation, and the scientific advancements in the machinery field also drive the competence among the different suppliers to meet the demand more cost-effectively.
In the past few decades, we have seen various destructions and defacements to nature and the environment at an accelerated pace. The greenhouse gas emissions from planes and road transport sources. In the case of air transport, the nitrogen and sulfur dioxide fumes are directly injected into the top layer of the atmosphere, where they cause extensive damage and linger around there longer. In the case of water transportation, the oil leakages and the disposal of sewage and waste generated at sea into the water bodies cause irreversible damage to the flora and fauna of the local ecosystem. We are continuously destroying our environment, endangering our lives, and creating a place unlivable for future generations. We can tackle this problem most effectively by the powerful means of education. But without individual responsibility and everyone coming to grips with this unavoidable fact, we cannot use education and knowledge.
