Can you help me with this question? Can you calculate Free cash flows for Dropbox Inc. for the past 5 years? Using the Statement of Cash Flows, create a measure of past FCFs from operations (FCFO). Consider calculating unlevered FCFOs (with interest expense added back) as it could be argued that interest reflects the choice of capital structure and is not part of the operating activities of the firm (notwithstanding the tax shield interest payments provide).
From FCFOs deduct FCFs from investing activities (FCFI) to the extent that they relate
to capital expenditures required to operate the business. Consider whether the capital
expenditures reflect normal replacement of plant, property and equipment (PP&E)
through wear and tear (to maintain assets in place) or whether the expenditure
reflects a decision to invest in new PP&E, that is, to invest in growth opportunities. You may choose to use total depreciation expense as a proxy for steady-state capital
expenditure required to maintain existing assets.
With your estimate of FCFOs and FCFIs, identify and quantify how remaining FCFs
were allocated by the firm including:
Dividends
Share repurchases
Capital structure changes (retirement or issuance of debt)
Retained earnings / cash balances
Investing in new PP&E, aqusitions
