BUS 6073 AA #4 (Week 4)

Description of Case Studies

Case #1: (40 points):

A branch manager of Wonderful Bank devised a new process designed to reduce customer wait times at her branch. The branch manager received permission from the bank president to test her new process against the existing process. The branch manager contacted you to design and conduct the proper test. She would like the analysis to be set up to determine if the wait times using her new process are shorter than under the existing process.

Using Version 1 of the SSP,completethe following:

  1. Complete the preliminary Steps of the SSP (Steps 1 through 4).What CL do you recommend for the client?Be sure to discuss the reason for your recommendation.
  2. Analyze the data and report your results to the branch manager.
  3. Note:wait times are recorded in minutes. As you can see, data were collected on wait times using the old process (labeled WT - 1).Next, the new process was installed, and after a few weeks, a second sample was collected (labeled WT - 2).Both samples used a random collection design.
  4. Analyze Wait Times from the old process versus Wait Times from the new process.
  5. Discuss your findings and conclusions.Do you think the test was successful in the eyes of your client? What will your client recommend to the Bank President?
  6. Finally, do you think the bank president will allow the manager to install the new process? On what rationale do you base your opinion?

Case #2: (60 points):

One of your clients owns a large number of franchise restaurants. The owner wants you to determine if the Yearly Advertising Budget allocated to each store and / or the Number of Competing Stores helps to explain the level of annual sales for each store.

Design:Your client wants you to study the importance of one or both variables (Yearly Ad Budget and Number of Competitor Stores) in understanding why Annual Net Sales vary among his many stores.

Using Version 2 of the SSP, complete the following:

a.Complete all preliminary steps for correlation analysis.

b.Note that scatter plots are useful in determining patterns between two variables.Use the scatter plot option to display the data patterns for each IV with the DV (Sales). The name (definition) of each IV is shown right above the data.

c.Next, use the correlation option to build a correlation table for the 3 variables. Include all 3 variables in one correlation table.

d.Discuss your findings and conclusions. Are allof the relationships (e.g., X1 with Y, X2 with Y) statistically significant? How do you know this?Be sure to show your work.

Using Version 3 of the SSP, complete the following:

a.Complete all preliminary steps for regression analysis.

b.Next, use the regression option to run a bi-variate regression model with the IV that has the strongest correlation with Sales as the dependent variable.

c.Discuss your findings and conclusions.Does the Independent Variable you tested explain a significant amount of variation in the Dependent Variable (Sales)?

d.Finally, what will you tell your client?
