Clinicians in a pain clinic use two measures to indicate the severity of catastrophication (Pain Catastrophicing Scale) and fear/avoidance behaviour (Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia) among clients entering the program. Among the chronic pain population, scores on the Pain Catastrophicing Scale (PCS) are normally distributed with a mean of 21.6 and a standard deviation of 12.9. Scores on the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) are normally distributed with a mean of 39.9 and standard deviation of 8.8. If the scores for both measures are above the 75 percentile the client is at high risk for chronic disability. a. As a clinician would you be concerned about chronic disability if a client presented with a PCS score of 32 and a TSK score of 42? b. Among a population of 1000 chronic pain patients, how many would you expect to have a PCS score greater than 47
