Some workplace discrimination issues that are important to understand as a manager is that you can not denied employment, harass, demote, terminate, pay less or treat less anyone based off race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or any other that I have missed. This is happening still today and slowly getting cleaned up. This is important to know and understand as a manager because not only are you going to lose your job and career, but you can also get the company sued for a lot of money. Once a company gets looked at as a bad company to go to it is hard for them to fix the damage. A few laws to be aware of are Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Equal Pay Act of 1963, The Civil Rights Act of 1991.

I feel it is important to have diversity in the workplace to have different point of views to help improve the company. It is also important to have diversity to ensure that there is an understanding with different cultures the employees may have to deal with when helping customers. What may not be disrespectful to you might offend someone else. With diversity you can help with explaining why someone would feel the way they feel. A few items to be aware of are:

-Examine you company's composition and culture

-Evaluate executives diversity

-Set goals to achieve greater diversity

-Update workplace policies to be more inclusive

-Provide diversity training

The article I picked for this week I feel is important. This article talks about Navy Federal approvals more loans (75%) for majority and minority (50%). This is major because it shows how we are still trying to catch companies that are not doing the right thing. It will also come down to is it the company that is doing this or is it employees that are with the company? There could people in the approval section that knows how to deny someone a loan and not pop up on the radar. One thing in the article that stood out to me was when they said, "Navy Federal approved a slightly higher percentage of applications from white borrowers making less than $62,000 a year than it did for black borrowers making $140,000 or more."
