Can you please help me with a sequence problem in Excel. Assumptions:

  1. In Generation (1), we start off with one pair of rabbits.
  2. In Generation (2), this pair of rabbits matures.
  3. In Generation (3), the original pair of rabbits give birth to another pair of rabbits.
  4. In Generation (4), the original pair gives birth to their second pair, and the first offspring of the original pair also matures.
  5. Rabbits die after 5 generations.
  6. At what generation does the number of rabbit pairs reach 100,000?

I tried to start the sequence by hand:

Generations 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
# of Rabbit Pairs 1 1 2 3 5 7 11 16

The sequence is definitely correct through G(6), although I'm not sure of the rest. My attempt at a formula is: xn = [xn-1 + xn-2] - xn-5 for xn >=6, although I'm not sure if it's correct.

Could you please check this and provide the work in Excel for what generation the population reaches 100,000, along with the population numbers.

Thank you so much!
