Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms expresses who we are as a people. Since its inception in 1982, citizens have been able to challenge government laws and actions that violate their rights and freedoms as set out in the Charter. The Supreme Court of Canada has issued landmark decisions based on the Charter, some of which have been considered controversial; in particular, where these rulings have caused existing laws, implemented by elected officials, to be changed.

For this project, make a power point that demonstrates understanding of a section. The section is ( Freedom of Conscience and Religion ) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Step 1: given a section of the Charter which is Freedom of Conscience and Religion, describe in student friendly language.

Step 2: then must provide a real life case that demonstrates a breach of the right/freedom in the section Freedom of Conscience and Religion.

a. Include a description of the case in own words.

b. Explain who won the case and why?

c. Explain how this case ( Freedom of Conscience and Religion) demonstrates the section's importance to Canadian society and/or to own life.

Power point composition: power point must be in student friendly language with illustrations to enhance the presentation. It is important that the presentation is engaging to audience. Should also cite sources on the final slide. Outside of this, may be as creative as wish. Please make sure to meet all the requirements set out in the rubric for this assignment.

Goal: To analyze, summarize and condense information as you gain a deeper understanding of a key section of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms; to engage the class in a presentation of this information.

Essential Questions: Why is the charter important? How does it guarantee the rights of Canadians? Which sections are crucial? When are rights breached?
