Candidates are required to elaborate their project starting from the following case: The Mayor of your town has shown the political intention to set up a new local garden in a borough of the town. He asked the competent office for green maintenance of the local administration to write a report for the town council where the benefits, costs, and local interest for the construction of new green space are clearly illustrated. You are coordinating the elaboration of the report. Based on your knowledge on the demand and supply curves for public goods, ecosystem services and benefits from natural assets (e.g. landscape, parks, trees, etc.), make a consistent proposal setting up some preliminary terms for a future feasibility study for the new garden. Remember to include in the proposal all the following critical aspects that should be presented in clearly referenced paragraphs or sections of the report: 1. Demand curve for the garden from local citizens and organisations, 2. Alternative options in the characteristics of the garden (e.g. trees, playgrounds, dog-reserved areas, running tracks, bars), 3. Supply curve and potential ways to finance the garden, 4. Benefits/positive externalities from the new garden (you can use the theory and literature on ecosystem services) 5. Suggested approaches for quantifying the benefits/positive externalities (in monetary and nonmonetary terms) The proposal is directed to the town council thus it should be focused, simple to understand, use tables, figures and pictures.
