Carolina Rodriguez, an accountant at an Iowa accounting firm, went on weekend camping trip with some of her coworkers. Before the trip, her performance evaluations were always excellent, and she had a good relationship with her coworkers and her supervisor, Becky Lewis. However, during the trip, she was very uncomfortable with some of the activities, including nude hot springs bathing and drinking games, in part because of her Christian religious beliefs about modesty and alcohol. During the trip, members of the group, including her boss, created and performed a skit to the tune "Bad Moon Rising," which ended with the group mooning the audience. After returning from the trip, the group performed the skit at the firm for the benefit of those who could not attend the trip. Carolina did not participate in any of these activities. Upon her return to work, her relationship with Becky, her supervisor, deteriorated sharply, and she was eventually fired. Although she was an employee-at-will, she sued for wrongful discharge.
