Cartoon Analysis worksheet: Gather a collection of political cartoons from your newspaper. Pick one to analyze. Using the Cartoon Evaluation Worksheet (available online at the NIE Website) analyze the cartoon and explain the issues addressed and determine the artist's point of view. In particular, record the following in your journal entry:

1. Name of the newspaper, date of the cartoon, and the cartoonist. Provide a link if the cartoon is from an online newspaper.
2. List the objects or people you see in the cartoon. Note which are symbols.
3. What do you think each symbol means?
4. What are the words or phrases used by the cartoonist to identify objects or people in the cartoon?
5. List adjectives that describe the emotions portrayed, and/or that describe the tone of the cartoon.
6. Describe the action taking place in the cartoon.
7. Explain the message of the cartoon.
8. What special interest groups would agree or disagree with the cartoon's message?
