Barry had always been a quiet, shy person who was happiest when he was reading something, whether it was in print or online.He learned a greatdeal about a lot of things over the years, and it seemed like he could findanything on the Internet.He was thrilled when he learned about a job opening as a page in a research library.His job would be to locate books, manu-scripts, and records, deliver them to the library desk,and reshelf them when the researcher finished using them. However, the librarian told him that the page position had been filled and the only opening she had was on the reference desk helping students and other researchers find what they needed to do their researchBarry wanted to work in a library, but was nervous about interacting directly with the library's patrons. He wasn't sure that working the reference desk was the best job for him.
