processing the massive amounts of data that flows through the system requires state-of- the-art database technologies. The system is much more than an automated fingerprint
identification system. The database stores graphical descriptive data such as fingerprints, palmprints, facial images, iris images, signatures and even audio clips. It also holds textual data, including demographic information and criminal investigation information. Some businesses use the BIS to run security checks on job applicants.
