CASE STUDY OUTLINE FOR BUS. 111 1) Brief overview of the case. Two to three sentences which conveys a concise non-detailed description of what is going on. 2) Facts. A listing of the relevant facts presented in the case. Facts are completely objective and do not include interpretation, judgment, or intent on the part of the reader. There should be between 8 and 12 facts for each case. 3) Identification of the problem. The key management problem, which needs to be dealt with in order to resolve the immediate situation presented in the case. Some cases may have multiple problems, which must be confronted and resolved. This section should be 2 to 3 sentences. 4) Your objective. Exactly what it is you want to accomplish in solving the key management problem identified in number 3. 5) Alternative solutions. Three to 5 briefly described alternative solutions should be presented each including one potential positive and one potential negative outcome that could result from implementing the alternative solution. These alternative solutions represent possible ways of achieving the objective stated in #3. 6) Selected alternative. This section should include a thorough explanation of the selected alternative(s). Be sure to explain in a detailed manner the why, the how and the "what ifs" of the solution. Your task in this section is to convince me why your solution is the correct one (the why) and exactly what you will say and or do in carrying out your solution (the how). In addition, you need to answer at least three possible responses to your solution from the person you will be dealing with in the case (the "what ifs"). Remember, in this section you explain what your solution is, why it is the best solution for achieving your objective in the case, how you will implement it, and how you will respond to potential "what ifs" when implementing the solution.
