CASE STUDY READ THE CASE STUCi'ir AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW RROJECT STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS Stakeholder analysis is a technique that can assist the project team members to understand the variety of stakeholders that have an interest in the project and the individual nuances that can affect the project. In an environment where office politics often appear to cloud a project's progression, stakeholder analysis provides the team with views and measures that can help undercover and remove barriers. Stakeholder identification and analysis in project management compels project leaders to identify and support the interests of the key groups. when interests that cannot be supported arise, the knowledge that exists and what level of influence the stakeholders may impose can be a great asset to the project team. The difference between success and failure can be simply in knowing project advocates and opponents. understanding their respective needs and levels of influence. and aligning the project accordingly. This technique has been used on several projects differing in the application area, duration. and complexity. A simplified presentation of one project is described here as an example of how this technique can be applied in project management. The newly appointed project manager for Sky Deep Pty Ltd described the new fouryear project of constructing a public clinic in Alexander township, as involving an international sponsor, local politicians, and a remote financial sponsor. The project manager understands very well that this project will not work unless all parties understood their roles and responsibilities, Furthermore, he realized that the municipality and community had to be involved in all phases of the project, particularly at the beginning. During the middle of the project execution, a static view of the project was taken. From the data collected, there has been some shifting of key stakeholders, but the alignment has roughly stayed the same. The project team considered their communications strategy key to the success of their project. Although there have been some problems along the way (particularly growth issues), design and implementation barriers were made known before they became critical.
