4. Literature Review

a) A Literature Review is a summary of a literature area (e.g., if you are using

motivation in your analysis, the Literature Review section of your paper would

summarize the motivation research literature). In this summary (Literature

Review), you might start off by discussing historical streams of motivation

research. For example, some early motivation researchers conceptualized

motivation as a drive this is an example of a research stream and there are

numerous articles pertaining to this stream. Find at least one article in this stream

and use it to cite your discussion about this stream in your Literature Review (the

same applies to other historical streams). Then discuss contemporary streams of

motivation research (e.g., the cognitive approach to motivation) and follow the

same logic discussed above. For more detail, please refer to our class

discussion about the Greenberg (1990) articles Literature Review (see the

course outline for the specific date).

b) During your literature search, it is a very good idea to find one or two academic

articles that contain a Literature Review section that way, you can get an idea of

how to write a Literature Review [not to mention the fact that the author(s) of the

articles have already summarized the motivation literature area (for example)] .
