Case Study/Activity

You are the director of IT security; decide how you are going to develop a policy and procedures to combat cybercrime in your organization which is a multinational business dealing with electronic software. Your business has experienced identity theft, cyber stalking, and personal malicious software attacks. Several of your marketing and financial managers have seen themselves with pictures and vulgar descriptions of sexual harassment and child labor abuses. Much of this action began when your company downsized a factory in the Philippines and outsourced financial services to a company in India. You are now part of a global management team that must determine what means using both public and private communications to protect managers, employees, and your global business. Using decision making steps and team training what solutions can you create to solve this problem? What would you create to have your IT department protected? Do you want to go to an outside vendor? You have not found the IT department's staff very responsive or cordial to this growing dilemma. Therefore, you are working with the marketing, financial, and human resources departments to solve this crime. You have, however, included the top management and knowledge workers form the IT department. Because this is a global issue, you may have to have some meetings in a virtual (not face-to face) environment. Also one of your very best "hacker busters" quit three months ago. She was very effective at solving several cyber-attacks and was well liked and respected throughout the organization. She claimed she was leaving because of sexual harassment. The members of the IT department vigorously denied this. You note 90 percent of that department are males. Now she has made known she would like her old job back. The IT managers and staff have clearly stated they do not want her back.
