Changes to the CMU campus include a new addition to the Cohon University Center, a new building for the College of Engineering Scott Hall a new quadrangle for the Tepper School of Business Tepper Quad and a new addition to Heinz College, which is Hamburg Hall. A new feature class will highlight these development areas for communication with the campus community and the universitys neighbors.
Open the Tutorial project. The project contains a map of CMUs main campus and existing buildings. Use the Cohon University Center bookmark, and zoom out twice.
Create a polygon feature class, and add a field
In ArcGIS Pro, you can create feature classes directly in the Catalog pane Found under View Tab on ribbon and add attributes using the attribute table.
Open the Catalog pane, and browse to Chaptergdb
Rightclick Chaptergdb and click New Feature Class. The Create Feature Class tool opens and you have six pages of data to enter.
For Name, type BldgsProposed, for Feature Class Type click Polygon, and click Next.
Click on Click here to add a field, type BLDGNAME, select Text for Data Type, type for Length, and click Next.
Click NAD StatePlane Pennsylvania South FIPS
Click Next three times and click Finish. The new BldgsProposed feature class has been created in the file geodatabase. The feature class is empty now. Later, as you digitize features, polygons will be added to the feature class and become visible on the map.
From Chaptergdb click and drag BldgsProposed to Contents.
Close the Catalog pane. Now your new polygon feature class is ready for digitizing.
Add a feature class, and create polygons
Before you start adding features, youll change the style for the layers symbol.
In the Contents pane, change the color of the BldgsProposed layer to a dark green with a white outline.
On the Edit tab, click the Create Features button.
In the Create Features pane, click BldgsProposed and the Polygon button.
On the Configure toolbar, click the Line button, and drag to draw a polygon similar to the figure. Doubleclick the last vertex point to finish the polygon. If the imagery map has an updated building footprint, use that as a guide to digitize the building.
