Chapter 2: Your Leadership Vision: In this exercise, describe the kind of leader you want to become by writing a short story of your life between now and fifteen years in the future. Take your time to think about it and start writing as soon as youre ready. Write vividly. Make it come alive and dont hold back. What if you dont even know where you want to go with your life or what you want it to look like? Give it your best shot. Open your mind to your imagination, and try not to be constrained by what you think others want and need from you. Ideally, your finished draft will be about one page. It will be a compelling image of an achievable future. It will also describe the journey, how you got there, and the destination, what a typical day looks like. Finally, it will show how youre making the world better in some way.

Chapter 2: Your Core Values: On one page, list the values (between five and nine is ideal) that are most important to you. For each one, explain why its important to you in one or two sentences. To spur your thinking, Chapter 2 has a list of values excerpted from Robert Lee and Sara Kings Discovering the Leader in You. Of course, you may choose terms that dont appear on this list.

Chapter 3: The Four-Way Attention Chart. One way of being real is to grasp the connection between the importance of each part of your life and what you actually pay attention to every day. The chart below is another window through which to see whats important to you. In the first column, consider the relative importance of each major area of your life today. Assign a percentage to each and make sure they add up to 100. If you place as much importance on work/ career/ school as you do on the other three areas of your life combined, put 50% in that cell on the chart. If, as another example, all four domains are of equal importance to you, then put 25% in each cell of the first column. In the second column, consider how much time and energy you actually focus on each domain in a typical week. Assign a percentage to each. Make sure these numbers, too, add up to 100.
