Chapter 3 discusses how to design our web sites for scanning and not reading. There are 6 items that this chapter discusses that we can do to support users scanning our web sites. Match the item on the left with the specific example on the right that best applies. A. If it is important it should be big or very distinctive from other items on the page Conventions are your friends Minimize the number of animations and ads displayed on a single page B. Create visual hierarchies Break up pages into clearly defined areas Be sure to separate the main information on your page from things like navigation, headers, ads, C. etc. and make the purpose of each section obvious. = Make it obvious what's clickable Use standardized icons that users have familiarity with on your site like a looking glass for search D. or the hamburger icon (3 horizontal stacked lines) to indicate more information A Keep the noise down to a dull roar = E. Link styles should be consistent, consider keeping links underlined and borders on buttons. Format text to support scanning F. Use bulleted lists whenever possible and make sure sections have clear headings
