Chapter 4 Homework Create a PortfolioIn the last homework you picked TWO companies from each of the following sectors of the economy that are part of the SP500 index. Now I want you to creat a portfolio that is made up of the 22 stock you picked. First Step is to create 2 folders in your USB drive (Called xxxxxxx and xxxxxxx Excel). If you have not already done so, open up (or create an excel file that lists the ticker symbols for the 22 stocks you selected (2 companies from each of the 11 sectors). Highlight the cells and click on Data at the top of the excel and click on stocks in the middle of the bar. We are going to start with somewhere around $100,000 to invest. If we want to mimick the SP 500, we will place about $13,000 in Consumer discretionary stocks (since I picked two stocks for consumer discretionary I will try and get close to about $6,500 in each company). In my example, I picked AMZN (Amazon) and LVS (Las Vegas Sands). Since Amzn is trading at $180, I will need to buy about 36 shares to have about $6500 invested ($6500/$180=36.11 shares). Then Click on Telemet and then Browse for folder will come up. Click on the Telemet Portfolio Folder and click OKThere may be an information message that comes up in a screen behind a running screen, just click OK on the back window information screen (It is a little hard to see and doesnt always come up).We are going to start with somewhere around $100,000 to invest. For LVS, the current price is $51. So $6,500/$51= about 127. I will need to buy 127 shares at $50.95. Your stocks are different so the amount of shares you buy will be different but between your two stocks you will have about $13,000 invested in Consumer Discretionary stocks. You will repeat this ten more times. For Consumer Staples you want a total of $6,000 so about $3,000 in each company. I have listed my stocks below as an example. IF you want to overweight or underwieght a particular sector, that is fine, but I would like money in each sector and dont deviate from the benchmark too much. Consumer Discretionary: 13% about $13,000: AMZN 36 shares @179.67 and LVS 127 shares@ $50.95Consumer Staples: 6% about $6,000:Energy: 3% about $3,000:Financials: 11% about $11,000Health Care: 13% about $13,000Industrials: 8% about $8,000Materials: 2% about $2,000Real Estate: 3% about $3,000Technology: 29% about $29,000Utilities: 2% about $2,000Communication Services: 10% about $10,000To put them into a portfolio tracking program, Click on New Display. Once the New Window comes up, Click on Display, then Pages, then Holdings. A liptons Sample Page will come probably come up. Look to the right until you find Create List and click on it. It will ask you to name your portfolio so name it whatever you want and hit enter.A symbol list will come up and I entered AMZN and then clicked Insert. It will insert AMZN into the list below. I highlighted AMZN and then went back to Custom Fields (You must add some fields to track your portfolio). You will now need to add Shares (this is the number of shares you own) Basis (this is the price you paid for your shares) and Date (this is todays date, the date you purchased the shares). Highlight Shares Basis and Date and click on Add. This will move them over to the Field column. Next click on Field Values. This is where you enter your data for the fields. Mine will say AMZN at the top and then I enter 36 for the shares, $179.67 for the Basis and 03/26/2024 for the date. I then click OK and my first stock is entered. I go back to Symbol list and enter LVS and insert. The custom fields have already been entered so I just need to go to field values for LVS. Make sure LVS is highlighted when you go on to Field Values. I would then enter 127 for shares, $50.95 for basis and 03/26/2024 for date. Click OK and my second stock is done. I need to do this 20 more times and it is all entered. When they are all entered you can go to Options, Group by and Group by SP Sectors so it will look nice. From the holdings page, You can now go to display and export and it will export the list as a csv file that you can open in excel, just save the file to your xxxxxx excel files folder in your USB. You can also go to edit and click on copy entire page and then paste special the results into a blank excel sheet that you can open ahead of time and then save the excel file to your printable documents. Put our name on the page and print it out and turn it in to me.MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE Telemet session to your USB DRIVE. Go to workspace, save or I think you can go to save from any window under display. It should save it under the xxxxxxxx file you opened up the Telemet up in.Later you will need to open it back up and see how you are doing.
