Chapter nine (Elias) discusses when employees turn violent in the workplace. This is a major problem since some two million U.S. workers are victims of some form of workplace violence each year. To make matters worse, workplace violence has increased within the last few years in the U.S. Is profiling and employment pre-screening such as personality tests good methods to identify those who are susceptible to committing violent acts in the workplace? Is relying on screening practices to keep violence out of the workplace simply not adequate or wise? What about criminal background checks? Are they effective?
