Role Play Overview:

Scenario:

Sarah has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Sarah has trouble sleeping during manic phases, she will sometimes use heroin to help her relax and sleep. Unfortunately, Sarah was recently arrested for possession and has charges pending. Sarah has not been to see her psychiatrist in six months. Sarah is now couch surfing but about to be forced to live on the street due to her drug use and the flatmates throwing her out. Brooke, Sarah's new Support Planner arrives and Sarah physically abuses her. She leaves the door open tells her to come in but swears at her and is extremely agitated. She throws a glass to the floor, it shatters and she picks up a piece and threatens to cut herself.

Role Play Instructions:

Instruction:

Act out as Brooke, to manage the conflict with Sarah. Your classmate will role play Sarah. You are required to demonstrate your ability to engage positively and supportively, use negotiation and problem-solving skills, model assertive behaviour when responding to Sarah's behaviour of concern.

Please refer to the Observation Checklist before conducting your roleplay. This will provide you with the criteria your Trainer will be assessing you on.

You will need to submit a copy of your role play transcript to your Assessor as assessment evidence for this task. You must also provide a photo of yourself, conducting the role play, within the transcript document. (Provide the transcript and photo below and submit for marking by your assessor)

NOTE: You are not required to submit a recording of your role play

Communicate with challenging behaviour person in a fair, just, humane, equitable and positive manner?

Use clear, calm and objective language if Sarah continues her threatening behaviour?

Follow procedures to ensure personal safety of self and Sarah?

Play role models and examples of confident assertive behaviour?

Carry out intervention in a professional manner?
