Dynamics and Torques WCLN.ca 2. The planks shown below are all of the same mass and length. They are positioned on top of a wedge so that they are free to rotate. Rank the images below from largest to smallest torque generated by the plank's center of mass. Assume the largest is the one with the most "clockwise" torque, while the smallest is the most counter-clockwise. A 4 B Center of mass Center of mass Weight of board Weight of board C 'S DO Center of mass Center of mass Weight of board Weight of board E Center of mass D Weight of board Largest Torque D E B A C Smallest Torque Explain how you arrived at this ranking (include references to any appropriate physics equations) I have arrived at this ranking because it states in the question that largest torque is in clockwise, Then next I have to do find a digram that is for from the pivot point and in clock wise Idirections In general, where is the center of mass located on the human body? Slightly below Navel is the center of mass located on the human body. 4. Perform the following task. Stand so that you are facing a wall. Position your feet so that your toes are touching the wall where it meets the floor. While maintaining this position try to go up on your toes ("tip- toe" style). Describe what happens. Discuss rotation. When I positioned myself as decribed in the question I was not able to go up on my toes. To was very unstable. 5. / Repeat the above procedure away from the wall and (hopefully) success is achieved. What changed? Pay attention to how your body moves. The changes that I observed, inorder to stand up and be stable , my center of mass Should be directly above my toes . Page 4 of 12
