Choos$$ a product$-$packag$$ system that you find to b$$ problematic in some way. It may be for a food, b$$verage$,$ cosmetic$,$ personal care item, m$$dical product, toy, electronic, or other type of product.

Follow the four st$$ps of the Design Thinking proc$$ss to improve the package and eliminate the problems that you have noticed. Document the process as follows:

Empathize: P$$rform an internet search to see what others are saying about the package. Describe your findings from at least thre$$ different sources. Explain whether your feelings on the package are validated by others or if others find different$/$zero flaws with the current package design.

Define: Stat$$ the problem that you are trying to fix with your re$-$design in the form of a question. Be sur$$ to consider the data collect$$d in the first step as you create your problem statement. Try to b$$ as broad with your statement as possible. $($Hint: Only tackle one probl$$m $$ do not try to solve all of the package$$s problems at once$)$

Ideate: Generat$$ as many ideas to solve the problem as possible. Make a bullet point list containing each of your ideas $$ you must include at least ten. When you stat$$ your ideas, be sure that they are different from on$$ another and not just variations of the same idea. Do not rule out any bad ideas at this point $$ just put them down even if they seem crazy. Consider multipl$$ materials to solve your probl$$m$.$ Be sure to list the materials using vocabulary from th$$ class. $($Hint: DO NOT use words such as plastic, cardboard, or Styrofoam.$)$ Be specific with your mat$$rials $$ paperboard, single wall corrugated board, polypropylene, high density polyethylen$,$ steel, aluminum, etc.

Prototype: Draw the most viabl$$ option from your Ideate step. Lab$$l your sketch with the various materials used to make the package. Again, be sp$$cific as you name the materials. Use call$-$out flags to explain the unique features of the package so that someon$$ with a fifth$-$grade $$ducation could und$$rstand your idea. Include: seal areas, tamper evident features, warnings, opening featur$$s$,$ symbols, etc. Be sur$$ to describe the affordances that you have built into your design and label whether they are strong and true, strong and false, weak and tru$,$ or weak and false. Describ$$ how the packag$$ could be assembled. Would it need to be packed by hand $($manually$)$ or could it be automated on some type of machin$$ry$?$
