Loading and unloading the dishwasher is inefficient, it takes approximately 20 minutes to unload the dishwasher and creates a bottle neck. Dirty dishes pile up in the sink until the dishwasher is emptied. The responsibility and timing of dishwasher unloading creates stress among the family and a new solution for maintaining utensil hygiene needs to be explored.

Recommended Action

Based on evaluation of gaps and possible solutions, the team recommends that a project be initiated to install a second dishwasher. In this manner, clean dishes will be used directly from the "clean dishwasher" and not put into the cabinets and dirty dishes will fill the "dirty" dishwasher. Other alternatives were evaluated including training our new puppy to put away dishes, hiring a full time dishwasher attendant, and switching to all disposibles. The other alternatives did not rate as highly when assessed against criteria of timing, feasibility, cost, and environmental freindliness.
