. What was its path? It began off the African coast, as a V-shaped tropical wave, on August 5, 1969. It traveled west across the Atlantic Ocean with little configuration until the 13 of August when its convection increased and it was found that Tropical Storm Camille had formed. The storm built strength as it traveled northwesterly through the western Caribbean; with a swift drop in pressure elevated the storm to a hurricane 60 miles south-southeast of Pinar del Rio, Cuba. Twelve hours later, with winds up to 115mph, Camille intensified into aCategory 3 hurricane and made landfall in far western Cuba.
